My New Found Spirituality

I am currently at a crossroads in my life.  I feel like my life could go in any direction at this point, and I have no solid idea of what my next career move will be, or even where I will be living next year.

After having worked very hard for three years in Japan, I completed my three-year work contract in December 2012, and returned to Canada to spend time with family. During my time in Japan, I developed a loving and committed relationship with my boyfriend, and it was heart-wrenching to leave him (he returned back to Australia at the same time as I went home to Canada).  So we made plans to visit each other in our respective countries, after spending some time with family, but we still don’t have a definite long-term plan.  It is a very touchy and difficult subject to discuss, since we have to face it, we have three choices:  to live in either Australia or Canada for good, or to break up (neither of us wants to break up).

So here I am in Australia, coming to the end of my visit with him, and struggling to come up with a decision or plan.  One big obstacle is my career. I studied biology, molecular biology, and worked in biotechnology, but I may not be able to get a job similar to what I was doing in Japan, and I wont have any practical experience for other jobs….

Anyway, to make a long story short, I have been asking myself a lot of questions in these past months, like what do I want to do with my life? What should I be doing so that I can live a happy and fulfilled life? What kind of jobs would I be happy doing? Would I be able to get a job that I’d be happy with? Can I live away from my family permanently if we decide to make a life in Australia, etc…

I have also been taking advantage of all my free time by reading as much as possible (reading is one of my favourite pastimes).  Which brings me to how I became to explore issues of spirituality.

It began after I read the book “The Witch of Portobello” by Paulo Coelho.

I could not put it down. It really touched me, and got me interested in the issues of spirituality, meditation and channeling and finding your higher self. From there, I looked into practicing Meditation. I read an amazing book on the subject by Davidji: “The Secrets of Meditation, A practical guide to inner peace and personal transformation“.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning to meditate.  Thanks to the guidance in that book, I am now trying to maintain a daily meditation practice.

After reading Davidji, I decided that I also wanted to become more serious about my Yoga practice, and learn more about the spiritual side of yoga. So I read the book “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga” by Deepak Chopra, which I would also recommend to anyone interested in learning more about yoga as a lifestyle.

I then came across some books written by Charles Leadbeater on Theosophy and Clairvoyance, which are very interesting books from the 1920’s.

Finally, I was lead to a book titled “Opening to Channel” by Sanaya Roman and Duane Parker, which teaches how to channel a high level spirit guide or your higher self, in order to obtain guidance on how to live your life.

That is exactly what I need at this point!!

So, I decided that I will give it a try, and see what happens. Wish me luck!
